Bobzien, Waterman Compete for Assembly District #24
David Bobzien is a web designer who works in the Midtown Reno District. He's proud of the redevelopment that area has seen in recent years. He says he's been a part of the hard decisions to cut education funding and he wants to go back for a third term to be a part of rebuilding it.
"I want to be a part of setting the right course for a better tomorrow," he says.
Bobzien won't say that a tax specifically to support education is the answer but he does say that what we're doing now clearly isn't working.
"We have the lowest tax burden, well one of the lowest in the entire country," he says. "If that were the sole driver of success we'd be swimming in success and we aren't. We need a strong education system to be able to draw business here."
Bobzien's challenger is businesswoman Heidi Waterman. She was a lifelong Democrat who became a Republican earlier this year to be able to support Ron Paul. She's concerned about personal liberties...and the economy.
"I don't know what the answers are," she says, "but I do know how to think critically and I think when we have think tanks and everyone talks and we push the special interests aside we should be able to come up with some answers."
District #24 has twice as many registered Democrats as Republicans but it also has more than 6,000 non-partisans, which some say could make for a tight race.
