Quiz Your Legislator On Education

Posted: Updated:

A group of local parents is hosting a series of meetings with legislative candidates to make sure that the voters know exactly where their lawmakers stand on education reform and funding.

The group, Parent Leaders for Education, said the only way Nevada's economy will recover is through our education system.

"I love Nevada," PLE mother Jill Tolles said, "and I want to see us make that economic turnaround that we are so desperately fighting for. I don't believe it's possible without education."

Parent Leaders for Education is fighting to keep education funding off the chopping block this next legislative session. A handful of state representatives and candidates will be on hand at the meetings to answer questions.

"Since we are 49th in education funding and 50th in graduation rate and 50th in [pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten] education," PLE Co-Founder Andrea Hughs-Baird said, "now is the time to put those dollars where they can do the most good."

The Stand Up for Education meetings are on October 8th at Galena High School and October 15 at Wooster High School. Both start at 6:30pm.
