September is Hunger Action Month and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is putting the final week to good use.
Jocelyn Lantrip from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada says the warehouse is getting low on food, so they are holding several events to help feed the hungry.
"It's pretty light right now. We do a big tuna drive during the month of September. People can donate at an Scolari's. We ask for tuna because we need it. It's a great protein food. It's not very cheap, so it's great food bank food."
Living Stones Church is also holding a food drive for the food bank this week. You can donate food at their location on South Virginia Street, in downtown Reno from 9am until 9pm this Sunday.
Also, Lantrip said next Thursday, the Whispering Vine on Foothill Road is having a wine tasting event. Proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
So, a lot of ways to help out this final week of Hunger Action Month. Lantrip said when you see the need for yourself, it breaks your heart.
"We've had a child come up to one of my colleagues at a food drive and he was just kind of hanging around the barrel and he wanted to know how much the food was. It turned out, he didn't have enough food at home and he was trying to get food for his mom."
If you want to see the entire interview, Face the State airs this weekend on Channel 2 at 4:30am and 4:30pm. It also airs at 6:30am on Sunday.
