Carter Springs Fire Burns 3,454 Acres South of Gardnerville

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) -- A wildfire burning in northern Nevada's Pine Nut Mountains has grown in size to 3 square miles but officials say the threat to about 30 homes has eased as winds pushed the fire toward the east and away from residences.

The Carter Springs fire has burned an estimated 3,454 acres and is currently 65 percent contained The cause of the fire, which broke out just after noon Friday south of Gardnerville, remains under investigation.

No structures have been lost, and 250 firefighters are being assisted by nine air tankers, five helicopters and 20 engines.

Officials hope to have the fire contained by Tuesday, with full control by next Saturday.
