A local mother and daughter - who faced the hardship of cancer head-on -- are gearing up for a three week, 60-mile hike 20,000 feet into the Himalayas!
Leslie Katich - who works for the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation and her daughter, Kristin - who is a leukemia survivor were chosen out of 1,500 applicants to climb Mount Ing Cha Sei to Katmandu.
It's part of the "Above and Beyond" program - which strives to reduce the burden of cancer on a global level.
Leslie and Kristin will bring hundreds of prayer flags with them during the hike - with names of cancer fighters, survivors and angels - I made one out for my husband and Wendy's mom.
The ladies will release the flags during a special ceremony on, what locals consider, a sacred mountain - and, Leslie trusts that these flags will bring her strength, too.
"So, when I know it's going to be hard, I'm going to think of our loved ones who have fought and the mountains they've climbed and I'll know I can do that, too," says Leslie Katich.
I'll meet up with the ladies after they return for a very special 'Someone 2 Know' in October.
