Davidson Academy Student Wins Literature Scholarship

Posted: Updated:

A senior at the Davidson Academy has won a $10,000 scholarship for writing a novel.

It's about a war veteran with paranoid schizophrenia. "I wanted to bring back a form of tragedy in literature and give that new life so this most certainly not a happy book, but I personally like it."

16-year-old Ian McKeachie self-published "Idols of Dust" last year - and was recently named a 2012 Davidson Fellow for his work.

The scholarship is given to about 20 students a year who complete college-graduate level work in a variety of fields, including literature.

McKeachie says he was very excited to receive the honor.

His book is now for sale on amazon.com and at Sundance bookstore right here in Reno.
