Saturday was day four of the 49th Annual TravelNevada.com Reno National Championship Air Races, and planes and jets filled the sky at the Reno-Stead Airport.
We found race fans not just from around the country, but from around the world as well. That included a group of pilots from the Netherlands. They say this was a show they just couldn't miss.
"Back in the Netherlands we don't have something like this," says Gerard Evenaar. "Similar to this. So the three of us thought well, we need to see this."
And they're only in town for about 24 hours.
"We arrived yesterday with a plane in San Francisco," says Evanaar. "Took the car, drove up here, slept for a few hours and came over here for the day."
Seeing these races up close and personal is what brings in fans from around the world.
"There's people that like planes and they probably plan their whole trip to come here and do this," says Dana Ward, visiting from Oregon.
Of course, this year fans aren't as close to the action. There is a concrete barrier between them and the race. The race course is farther north and the planes can't fly above 250 feet.
Fans we talked to say even after last year's tragic crash, it wasn't going to stop them from coming back again this year.
"No, I've been flying for years and years so it doesn't bother me," says Skip Evans, visiting from California.
But for some fans, it's hard to get over last year's tragic crash so quickly.
"You think about it, but it's over," says Ward. "It's something that you don't want to think about, because it's not a good experience."
The action starts up bright and early at 8 a.m. Sunday, which also marks the one year anniversary of last year's crash.
