Friday's marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Reno's namesake.
The City of Reno and the Historic Reno Preservation Society held a ceremony in honor of Major-General Jesse Lee Reno Friday morning, by his statue in Powning Park.
Many might be unfamiliar with Reno's story-- he was a Civil War hero.
"General Reno was a man who--the kind of general who didn't just give orders and expect them to be carried out. He went right to the front with his men. And, indeed, his death was the result of him being right in the front of his troops and leading them into battle," says Bill Isaeff of the Historic Reno Preservation Society.
Three days later the battle cry of Union troops at Antietam was "Remember Reno!"
Today's ceremony featured a color guard and attendees placed fresh flowers on Reno's monument.
