Places 2 Check Out: Buffalo's Steak House

Posted: Updated:

You might not think of a steak house being on Mill Street, but that's exactly what just opened. Buffalo's Steak House has called this location home for two months.

But this isn't your typical American steak.

"The food is unique in my opinion. We've got different flavors, they way we cook the food, the way we cut the meat as you saw previously," says Daniel Jimenez.

Buffalo's is an Ecuadorian steak house the meat is pounded thin and tender and cooked with distinct flavors of Ecuador... And always basted with chimichurri sauce.

"Chimichurri, yeah, it's got parsley, garlic and several other ingredients I'm not allowed to share."

This location used to be called the Snack Shack. But the interior has been completely redone. You sit in a nice dining room, Francisco who's from Ecuador, waits on you and the Jimenez family works tirelessly in the kitchen to offer Reno Ecuadorian cuisine. And they should know. They owned three steakhouses in Ecuador.

"My parents sold everything they had down there and moved up to here."

"Why Reno?"

"I don't know. My parents wanted to experience something new."

And now you can too.

If you want to sample everything, the buffalo comes with pork chops, chicken, skirt steak, shrimp and sausage served on a hot griddle. Your sides include a salad with light vinaigrette, fries, rice and either lentils or beans. Plus, a fried pantain doesn't just make it look pretty, but tastes good as well.

And you can wash it down with one of their three natural juices. Melon, papaya or pineapple.

They are located 3080 Mill Street in Reno. Their phone number is 775-322-4106.
