"12, 13, 14!" orders personal trainer and body builder, Greta Butler. She started seriously training Katrina Fries weeks after Katrina had her second baby girl. "Five! Come on, you can do 'em. Six. Seven." Katrina came to Greta, who owns Dynamic Fitness training at Body Fuel Gym in Sparks, with the primary goal of losing her baby weight, but then they decided on an even more ambitious goal – to compete in a fitness competition!
For the last several months, Katrina committed to getting into the gym almost every day. It is not always easy; she is a busy working mom. She realized, like so many mothers do, however, that she stopped making time for herself. "I was a mom, I was on the run, I was working and taking care of other people - but myself. I'd eaten poorly for too long and I'd had enough." While competing is a personal goal for Katrina, she also hopes to inspire other busy moms out there. "If I can do it, they can, too."
Katrina showed us a set of before pictures and it is obvious her dedication and determination is already paying off. She looks like a different person and "she's really changed her body," reports Greta. Greta helped her dial in her diet and she created a strict workout schedule. "There were times when I was up at 3:30 in the morning, because you gotta make time," smiles Katrina. She fit in two hours of cardio a day - one month before competition.
We met up with Katrina, once again, just days before her bikini competition in Tahoe.
"Quarter turn to your right," Greta says as she takes snap shots of Katrina practicing her competition poses. All smiles, Katrina told us she's lost inches and body fat, but she hasn't lost her desire to inspire other women. She says, many moms are noticing. "They ask, ‘How did you do that? What did you do? I can't believe it!'" Katrina's response? "Don't neglect yourself. If you take care of yourself, then you can take care of everyone else. I feel so refreshed when I come home. Somehow it fuels me to be a better mom."
Katrina competed in the 2012 Tahoe Show competition and did not place, but she says she felt amazing on stage.
