Motorcycle Club Remembers 9/11

Posted: Updated:

For years, the Iron Nation Motorcycle Club has hit the streets for its annual Ride in Remembrance of September 11th, 2001. Saturday morning, they continued that tradition. Nearly eleven years after the September 11 attacks, emotions still run high.

At Cottonwood Park in Sparks, it was about remembering.

"9/11 was just a significant event in American history and it's just great that we can all get together," says rider Stefan Sobkiewicz.

Two thousand riders from across the area came together for the Never Forget 9/11 Memorial Ride. A great turnout for a great cause.

To participate in the memorial, it costs $25 for a single rider and $35 for a double. All the proceeds go directly to Nevada Military Support Alliance.

"Because of the community that comes out for this event, last year we were able to donate $20,000 for them," says Fran Lane, President of Iron Nation Motorcycle Club.

In all, the event has raised more than $140,000 in contributions.

"The community always comes out and finds time to give up their hard-earned dollars to help raise money for this event," says Lane.

Riders say being a part of this event helps the community not only remember what happened on 9/11, but also the soldiers who are still fighting for our country.

"Without 9/11 or with 9/11, that this is America, this is the land of the free," says rider Dylan Gray. "And we support our veterans."

That includes the veterans who lost their lives. "My son was one of them, and I lost him in Iraq in 2004," says Brian Bekowsky.

Riders say they will continue their support, and will never forget what 9/11 represents.

"I found this run, and these great people that put it together and they work so very hard to do it, I can't imagine being anywhere else today," says Bekowsky.

Lane says this year's event included about 500 more riders than last year's.
