Reno Aces Take 2-1 Series Lead Over River Cats

Posted: Updated:

RENO, Nev.A two-run Tyler Kuhn single and a two-run home run for Josh Bell with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night lifted the Reno Aces to an 11-7 win over the Sacramento River Cats and a 2-1 lead in the Pacific Conference Championship Series.

With the victory, Reno is just one win away from capturing the first conference championship in franchise history. Game 4 is set for 7:05 p.m. PT Saturday at Aces Ballpark.

After facing an early deficit, Reno led 6-2 in the fourth and 7-6 in the sixth. The River Cats rallied again to tie the score in the top of the eighth, though, on Michael Taylor's second home run of the game.

Knotted at 7-7 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Kuhn rapped a 2-run single down the right-field line that gave the Aces the lead, and Bell followed with a two-run blast that put the game away for good.

Jensen Lewis (1-0) earned the win out of the Aces bullpen, while Sacramento reliever Rich Thompson (0-1) was pinned with the loss.

The Aces banged-out 13 hits on the night, including a four-hit effort for Bell and three more for Kuhn.

The Aces and River Cats will hook-up again on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Joe Martinez  gets the ball for Reno, while Sacramento will counter with RHP Brad Peacock. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
