ACLU Demands FBI Records on Bear Hunt Foes

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada is demanding to know what the FBI has collected about people who spoke against bear hunting during contentious public meetings earlier this year in northern Nevada.

ACLU legal chief Staci Pratt said a freedom of information request filed Aug. 22 seeks to find out what the federal government has collected about American Indian Movement of Northern Nevada members and a group called NoBearHuntNV.org.

Pratt says an AIM member who spoke at Washoe County Wildlife Advisory Board and Nevada Wildlife Commission meetings in March was arrested on an old warrant charge, questioned and released.

Another was questioned by agents at work.

A third thinks federal agents staked out her home.

FBI Agent Patrick Turner says he can't confirm or deny the agency is investigating.
