Walmart Donates $50,000 to Food Bank of Northern Nevada

Posted: Updated:

September is Hunger Action month and Thursday the Food Bank of Northern Nevada got a $50,000 check from Walmart's Associates Choice Program to help.

The Food Bank says that's enough money to provide 200,000 meals to the hungry in our region since the organization can buy four meals with every dollar.

The Walmart and Sam's Club Foundation decided to sponsor the gift because they say the Food Bank is a great cause that best serves the need of the community.

"We've worked with the Food Bank in the past and we're a huge supporter of their's and they do a great job and serve our community well. We're glad to be partnered with them," Walmart district manager Troy Cuff said.

This donation is part of a $2 billion commitment from Walmart nationwide.

And mark your calendars because later this year you can help northern Nevadans in need with our 20th Annual Share Your Christmas drive-by food drive. That's set for Friday, December 14th. We'll bring you more details as it gets closer.
