The Bureau of Land Management says it will complete an emergency wild horse gather next week because of severe drought conditions in the Pancake Herd Management Area.
The BLM says it plans to gather and remove 100 to 125 wild horses about 30 miles west of Ely and 80 miles northeast of Tonopah Wednesday, September 12th.
Right now, the BLM says the Pancake Herd Management Area is home to more than 1,200 wild horses and it can only sustain between 240 and 490.
The BLM says it has been monitoring the horses in the area and found many in the southern part of this herd management area are moderately to very thin because of the drought.
