MINDEN, Nev. (AP) -- A man who faked his daughter's death to scam money from sympathetic co-workers has been ordered to serve 60 days in the Douglas County Jail.
An arrest warrant was issued for Timothy Lee Anderson in September 2006 after a suspicious co-worker decided to verify Anderson's story that his then-9-year-old daughter had died of blood clots in her lungs.
The Record-Courier reports co-workers at the time donated about $1,100 and Anderson was given a cellphone for the trip to Las Vegas where he said she was to be buried.
But his story unraveled. Anderson's wife told his employer that the daughter was alive and well and her husband had a gambling problem.
Anderson turned himself in last month and was extradited from Las Vegas.
He was sentenced to jail Friday.
