A Gardnerville man is facing child abuse charges after allegedly beating his 5-year-old son with a belt.
The Record-Courier (http://bit.ly/QY2FHP ) reports 26-year-old DeWayne Rey is being held on $100,000 bail and was arraigned Friday before East Fork Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins.
Rey was arrested Aug. 29 after his son showed up at school with a visible bruise.
The boy told the school nurse that his father beat him with a belt because he wasn't doing situps and pushups properly and couldn't count to 10.
Authorities say the boy's three siblings corroborated his story. The children said their mother was at work when the incident occurred.
Investigators say they observed a half dozen welts and bruises on the little boy's back and chest. (AP)
