Reno Aces Win Thriller Over Tucson Padres

Posted: Updated:

A.J. Pollock induced a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night, capping off a come-from-behind, walk-off victory for the Reno Aces over the Tucson Padres at Aces Ballpark.

With the Aces trailing by three and facing a shutout in the ninth, Reno's offense came alive in a big way.  Josh Bell led-off the inning with a double, and Taylor Harbin singled to put two on with nobody out. One batter later, Brent Clevlen deposited a Jason Ray offering deep over the wall in left-center, tying the game at 3-3.

Ryan Budde then reached on an error, and after a fly out and a pair of walks, the bases were loaded for Pollock. On a 3-2 count with two outs, Pollock took a ball outside, forcing home the game winner.

Aces starter Zach Kroenke took a hard-luck no decision, scattering just two unearned runs over 5.0 innings. Bryan Henry allowed just an unearned run over three frames, and Mike DeMark (5-5) picked-up the win after working a spotless ninth.

The loss fell to Padres reliever Jason Ray (1-3), who surrendered all four runs in the ninth.

At the dish for Reno, PCL MVP Adam Eaton returned from the Disabled List and collected two hits. Clevlen singled, homered and drove in three.

The Aces and Padres will hook-up again on Sunday evening at Aces Ballpark. RHP Brett Tomko (0-0, 5.40 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Tucson will counter with RHP Anthony Bass (0-0, 3.60 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be another Renown Children's Hospital Family Funday.  Additionally, fans arriving by 4 p.m. can participate in On-Field Photo Day, presented by KTVN Channel 2 News.
