Two hits and two RBIs apiece for Josh Bell and Cole Gillespie weren't enough for the Aces Tuesday night, as Reno dropped a 9-4 decision to the Round Rock Express in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
Round Rock took an early 4-0 lead in the third inning, and after the Aces answered back with three in the fourth, the Express put up another four-spot in the fifth to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish, handing the Aces their fourth-straight loss.
Aces starter Tyler Skaggs (4-2) was pinned with the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits over 5.0 innings of work. After his exit, relievers Matt Gorgen and Joe Paterson held the Express to just a run over the game's final four frames.
The win went to Round Rock starter Justin Grimm (2-1), who scattered four runs on eight hits through 6.2 innings.
Five different Aces registered a multi-hit effort on the evening. Reno hit into four double plays on the night—matching a season-high.
The series continues on Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark. Charles Brewer (9-6, 5.59 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Round Rock counters with LHP Martin Perez (5-6, 4.73 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be another Aces WINSday at the ballpark.
