Governor Sandoval Tours Nevada Wildfires By Air

Posted: Updated:

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Gov. Brian Sandoval says Nevada is asking the federal government to help pay for efforts to battle more than a dozen wildfires burning across the state.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Sandoval has just concluded an aerial tour of wildfires across northern Nevada.

The largest fire has burned nearly 500 square miles overlapping the Nevada-Oregon border.

The Holloway Fire was 40 percent contained Sunday but labeled "dangerous" by federal officials.

In all, Nevada's wildfires are burning 780 square miles of scattered lands.

Thousands of firefighters are trying to contain the blazes.

Sandoval says Nevada has applied for relief through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
