Aces Drop 7-5 Decision To Isotopes

Posted: Updated:

Adam Eaton added three more hits to his Minor League lead Sunday afternoon, but the Albuquerque Isotopes earned a 7-5 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.

Both teams pushed across two runs in the fourth inning, but the Isotopes answered with four runs in the top half of the fifth and never trailed. Reno trimmed its deficit with two runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth, but the Aces failed to break through.

Eaton doubled and singled twice, raising his batting average to .382. He now has a PCL-best 166 hits with Reno and 178 hits overall this season—tops in the Minor Leagues.

Aces starter Trevor Bauer (4-1) suffered his first Triple-A loss, surrendering five runs—three earned—on six hits through 4.1 innings. After his exit, Zach Kroenke allowed two runs—one earned—in 2.2 innings, Matt Gorgen worked a scoreless eighth, and Jonathan Albaladejo held the Isotopes silent in the ninth.

Albuquerque starter Blake Johnson took a no decision, allowing two runs over 3.2 frames. Scott Rice (1-3) earned the victory out of the Albuquerque bullpen before Josh Wall ended the proceedings in the ninth for his 23rd save.

In addition to Eaton's three-hit day, Taylor Harbin and Tyler Kuhn added two hits apiece for the Aces.

The series comes to a close on Monday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Joe Martinez (10-9, 5.65 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Albuquerque turns to RHP John Ely (11-7, 3.42 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be an Om-Nom-Nomday presented by KTVN Channel 2 News with ribs available for just $1.

Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
