LEGO Summer Brickation in South Lake Tahoe

Posted: Updated:

An exhibit for one of the world's most famous toys is in South Lake Tahoe right now.

The LEGO Summer Brickation gives kids and families a chance to put their building skills to work.

LEGO's of all shapes and sizes fill the entire exhibit in Heavenly Village. If you're 10 years old, life doesn't get much better than this.

"Instead of having to drive down in California to go to LEGOLAND, we can just come here," says 10-year-old Griffin Howell.

You can't just find something like this anywhere you go. This hands-on exhibit is only in three other cities across the country this summer.

"LEGO chose the top four family location destinations, I'm not quite sure of the criteria they chose, but Lake Tahoe was one of four," says Erin Anderson, who works at the exhibit.

But looking around, just as many parents were creating their own LEGO masterpieces.

"It's kind of fun. You can't help yourself," says Cheryle Tiernan. "You have to dig in and try and build something. I'm not very creative. So, I'm using the book, but it's fun."

Anderson tell us it's pretty common to see parents like Tiernan sit down next to their kids and build right along with them.

"The parents do like coming in with or without their children. It just brings the kid out of anybody no matter what the age is," she says.

There are life-size LEGO models inside and outside the exhibit as well.  The ones we see took two weeks and 9,000 LEGO pieces to construct.

It definitely feels like LEGOLAND, just a miniature version of it. Families we talked to love the sound of that because it saves them a drive to southern California.

"It's great. It's fun. You can come in and build," says Tiernan. "You can stay as long as you want, and the kids are really enjoying it."

The LEGO Summer Brickation is a free event that's open seven days a week to the public. You can find it in Heavenly Village, and it will be in town until Sept. 4.
