Mike Jacobs homered for the third-straight game on Saturday night, but the Albuquerque Isotopes unlocked a tie ballgame with a four-spot in the seventh inning, en route to a 7-5 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.
After the Isotopes jumped-ahead with two runs in the first on a Jerry Sands home run, the Aces answered quickly, as Jacobs deposited a Stephen Fife offering over the wall in right to tie the score at 2-2. Reno would take the lead with a run in the next frame, but Albuquerque scored the game's next five runs to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Reno trimmed its deficit with two runs in the eighth, but the Aces would get no closer.
Spot-starter Bryan Henry took a no decision for the Aces, holding Albuquerque to just three runs on seven hits through five frames. The loss fell to reliever Mike DeMark (3-5), who surrendered all four Isotopes runs in the seventh.
Albuquerque starter Fife (9-5) earned the win, scattering three runs on three hits over seven innings of work. Josh Wall—the Isotopes' third reliever of the night—slammed the door in the ninth for his 22nd save.
Four of Reno's five hits on the night went for extra bases, including doubles for A.J. Pollock, Taylor Harbin and Cole Gillespie, in addition to Jacobs' homer in the first.
The series continues with a Sunday matinee at Aces Ballpark. RHP Trevor Bauer (4-0, 2.59 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Albuquerque counters with RHP Blake Johnson (3-0, 5.19 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be another Renown Children's Hospital Family Funday. Additionally, lucky kids in attendance will be eligible for the Whiffle Ball and Bat Set giveaway.
