BLM Announces Upcoming Wild Horse Roundup

Posted: Updated:

The Bureau of Land Management has plans to begin gathering hundreds of wild horses in central Nevada next week.

The BLM is planning a roundup in the Desatoya Herd Management area, about 18 miles west of Austin in Lander County starting Thursday, August 16th.

Federal officials plan to gather between 450 and 500 horses and release 127 back on the range after treating the mares with a contraceptive vaccine. The rest of the horses will be held in Palomino Valley north of Reno in preparation for adoption.
