DES MOINES, IowaKonrad Schmidt hit a solo home run in the third and scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning Wednesday afternoon, as the Reno Aces clipped the Iowa Cubs, 5-1, in the series finale at Principal Park.

Schmidt's homer in the third gave Reno an early lead, and the Aces would hold on to that slim one-run margin through the fifth. In the sixth, Iowa scratched across the tying run, ultimately sending the game to extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Schmidt was chased home from third on a chopper to the second baseman off the bat of Adam Eaton, putting the Aces ahead 2-1. One batter later, Mike Jacobs hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run that put the game away for good.

With the win, Reno earned a 3-1 series victory and capped the road trip with a 5-3 mark. The Aces now return home with a seven-game division lead with just 25 games remaining in the regular season.

Aces starter Tyler Skaggs took a no-decision, despite holding the Cubs to just a run on three hits with six strikeouts over six innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 1.70. The win went to Jonathan Albaladejo (4-2), who held the Cubs silent over the eighth and ninth innings. Bryan Shaw ended the proceedings in the 10th.

The loss fell to Iowa reliever Jay Jackson (2-7), who surrendered all four Aces runs in the 10th.
