Iowa Tops Reno 7-4 on Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

A.J. Pollock collected two hits, stole a base and scored a run for Reno Tuesday night, but the Iowa Cubs earned a 7-4 victory over the Aces at Principal Park.

With the game knotted at 2-2 through five innings, Iowa scored three times in the sixth and added another in the seventh to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Aces battled back in the eighth, trimming the lead down to two. But Reno stranded the bases loaded in the frame and went quietly in the ninth, seeing its four-game winning streak come to an end.

Aces starter Joe Martinez (10-9) took the loss, surrendering five runs—three earned—on seven hits over 5.2 frames. Out of the Reno bullpen, Matt Gorgen retired the lone batter he faced in the sixth, Joe Paterson allowed a run in the seventh, and Mike DeMark surrendered another in the eighth.

The win went to Cubs starter Ty'Relle Harris (1-2), who scattered two runs on six hits through six innings of work. Jairo Asencio came on in the ninth and registered his first save.

At the dish for Reno, Adam Eaton recorded three hits and drove in a run. Pollock and Taylor Harbin added two hits apiece for the Aces.

The series comes to a close with a Wednesday matinee.  LHP Tyler Skaggs (4-1, 1.73 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-3, 4.10 ERA) counters for the Cubs. First pitch is set for 10:05 a.m. PT at Principal Park.
