RENO, Nev. –After approximately five months of construction and ramp closures, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Granite Construction opened the I-80 eastbound Wells Avenue on and off ramps and the Fourth Street off-ramp Saturday morning. Eastbound traffic is now in the right two lanes on the new concrete pavement.
The ramps have been closed since mid-March of this year. Motorists will see improvements on the I-80 eastbound Wells Avenue on-ramp including permanent ramp metering. Lanes on I-80 will continue to be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Keystone Avenue and Fourth Street.
The improvements are part of the $72 million I-80 Design-Build Project. The project is ahead of schedule and is expected to be complete in Fall 2012.
The estimated $72 million I-80 Design-Build Project includes pavement rehabilitation on approximately 40-year-old concrete between Keystone Avenue and Fourth Street, as well as installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), signing and striping, drainage and ramp improvements and landscaping and aesthetics enhancements on I-80 between Robb Drive and Vista Boulevard.
