Health Problems, Cataract Surgery & Moderate Exercise

Posted: Updated:

More Americans have multiple health problems. New government statistics show 21% of adults 45-64 years old have two or more chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer and hypertension. That's up from 16% a decade ago. 45% of them have at least two chronic conditions.

---

Another benefit to having cataract surgery -- it can lead to fewer broken bones. A new study finds older Americans who had the eye surgery were 16% less likely to fracture their hip one year after the procedure. Cataracts can impair vision and cause problems with balance and stability.

---

And new research shows moderate exercise helps heart failure patients both mentally and physically. Researchers at Duke University looked at more than 2,000 patients and found those who worked out 90 minutes a week were less likely to be depressed. The physical activity was also linked to fewer hospitalizations and deaths.
