Artown 2012 Celebrates Final Night

Posted: Updated:

Reno's month of art-themed events and concerts comes to an end Tuesday.

Artown 2012 boasted nearly 500 events over 31 days-- nearly 100 more than 2011. Organizers said they are thrilled with the outcome this year, and they are already looking forward to next year.

"This day is always bittersweet," Artown Executive Director Beth Macmillan said. "You're very grateful you've made it through the 31 days, because it is a long month, but it's also very sad."

The month of July has featured concerts, outdoor festivals, family activities, and exhibits-- all to celebrate the rich culture of art in Northern Nevada.

Artown organizers have not run the official numbers for attendance and economic impact yet, but Macmillan said based on feedback from the different venues, it could be a record-breaking year.

"All the venues have been filled to capacity," Macmillan said, "and some events, big and small, say that they have had record attendance this year."

Artown still has a list of events happening to wrap up the month tonight.

From 6 to 7 the Downtown Reno library is hosting a quilt exhibit, then Maceo Parker will be performing his mixture of jazz and funk music at Wingfield Park. The concert goes from 7:30 until 10 PM.
