A special event that pumps millions into the local economy is around the corner and this year there are some new events to tell you about at Hot August Nights.
They say this may be the biggest Hot August Nights in the event's history. This is Hot August Nights' 26th anniversary and organizers say new events are expected to attract an even broader audience.
"We have ride and drives in the Grand Sierra parking lot with Ford and General Motors. We're really excited about it. Come down and hop in with a professional driver and go on a course and get scared a little bit," says Hot August Nights executive director Tony Marini.
Of course you'll be able to see the classic cars at show and shines at all the major hotel-casino properties in Reno and Sparks.
Entertainment this year includes music from "Motown to Rock-n-Roll."
John Ascuaga's Nugget will host drag races on a custom speedway.
And if you missed seeing fireworks in downtown Reno in July, you can catch them during Hot August Nights.
"They did a fireworks show for us last year on Saturday night and it was great and the Silver Legacy came on board this year and said we're really excited to do it again. So Saturday night at ten o'clock as soon as the cruise is over there'll be a 20 minute fireworks show presented by the Silver Legacy."
Hot August Nights kicks off at Lake Tahoe Friday through Sunday. Then it moves in to Reno and Sparks a week from tomorrow through August 12th.

The other new event this year will be a demolition derby at the Reno Livestock Events Center. Drivers will compete to be the last car standing.
