There are all kinds of events for the list this weekend. Downtown Reno will be filled with bicyclers and the new Galena Creek Bridge will be filled with people Saturday to celebrate the bridge before it opens to the public. Artown is winding down but there are a ton of events this weekend including a Chanticleer concert at the Nugget and a chance for kids to compete drawing pets with the Nevada Humane Society. Friday 7/27

Movies in the Park:  Grease 9 PM

The 1978 American Film Classic about the cars and times of the 1950's will light up Wingfield Park in downtown Reno for Artown's last Movie in the Park for this year. Remember, low-backed chairs only. The film is free.

Carson City Women and Motorcycles:

The AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference is July 26-29. Lady riders will have a weekend of their own in Carson City at this premiere event, featuring inspirational speakers, demo rides and product showcases, for women who love motorcycles.

5th Annual Wooden Boat Show:

Lake Tahoe's rich maritime history "comes to life" at the 5th Annual South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic scheduled for July 27-28 at the Tahoe Keys Marina and Yacht Club.

Sponsored by the Antique and Classic Boat Society of Northern CA/Lake Tahoe, this year's show will once again feature boats that were originally owned by a prominent Lake Tahoe family who played a significant part in the lake's storied maritime past.

Wanderlust at Squaw kids program:

The Wanderlust Festival, a one-of-a-kind yoga and music festival, returns for a fourth year to the picturesque setting of Squaw Valley Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29.

The Wanderkind Kids Program is a fantastic opportunity for kids ages 4-10 to have a safe and exceptionally cool Wanderlust experience all of their own. Custom tailored to the interests of Wanderlust families, Wanderkind is held on-site and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. All activities, such as kid's yoga, live music, hooping, and arts and crafts, are included in the program. Kids and parents are responsible for their own lunches, but can enjoy samples from kid-friendly snack sponsors. Tickets are $50/child each day.

Other activities for kids in the Village at Squaw Valley are the climbing wall, ropes course, miniature golf and skyjump trampoline at the Squaw Valley Adventure Center. Wanderlust kids can also rent bikes and take a leisurely ride from the base of Squaw Valley to the shores of Lake Tahoe on a paved bike trail, completely free of cars.

Rainbow Fest 10:30am-5pm Wingfield Park:

Reno Rainbow Fest offers the largest and most spectacular showcase of diversity in Northern Nevada. Rainbow Week has been established throughout the LGBT community as a celebration of equality. All six popular gay bars get caught up with Out & Proud parties to paint the town in rainbow colors.

The Build Our Center's CommUNITY Pride Parade will lead participants into the Festival grounds at 10:30 am. Thunderous booms of Reno Taiko Tsurunokai drummers opens entertainment on Wingfield Park's amphitheater. Check out exhibitor booths, artists' row and youth dance tent.

Gay Reno explodes with world class entertainment at Wingfield Park at Saturday's festival that includes the incredible country music recording artist Lacy J. Dalton, Billboard Dance Sensation Matt Zarley, and the illustrious Tasha Kame.

Chanticleer at John Asquaga's Nugget 9 pm:

Founded by Louis Botto in 1978 in San Francisco, the multiple Grammy Award-winning all-male vocal ensemble is comprised of 12 singers hailing from across the U.S. Chanticleer's repertoire spans 10 centuries from Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony and Romantic art song to contemporary music, jazz, spirituals and world music. Chanticleer performs approximately 100 concerts a year throughout the world, appearing regularly in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago and Paris, as well as its home base of San Francisco.

I-580 Community Celebration walk Across the bridge!

It's the longest concrete cathedral bridge in the country and you're invited to walk across it before it's opened to traffic. This Saturday you can walk, run, bike stroll and enjoy the bridge as a community celebration. The catch is you have to get up early.  It all starts at 7 am.

The businesses along California Avenue spruce up the streets and fill them with artists booths and music and food. The fun starts at 11 am.

Tour de Nez in Reno:

It's the 20th year for the Tour de Nez. And that celebration of cycling fills the streets of downtown Reno both Saturday and Sunday. The hand cyclers are sure to steal the show, but there will be clunkers to see, kid's bike races and pros too.

Discovery Museum Seismic Challenge:


The Discovery, in partnership with the University of Nevada Seismological Laboratory, has created an exciting challenge for budding engineers and builders! The Seismic Challenge will take place July 21, 28 and 29 and is a great opportunity to design and build a structure and then test it on a shake table against the likes of California's Northridge and Japan's Kobe earthquakes. The catch... structures will be built using only toothpicks and gumdrops or balsa wood!

The Seismic Challenge is divided into four age groups and time brackets. Children can sign up individually and be paired with a partner, or in teams of two or more.

The High Desert Iris Society will hold their annual fundraising sale inside Moana Nursery, 1100 W. Moana Lane July 28-29. A great selection of unique & award-winning iris will be available for purchase.

Iris Society members will be on hand to answer questions about how to grow iris in our high desert climate and recommend which types grow best. They will also recommend fertilizers, tools, shovels and spades. They will explain when it is best to dig and separate iris for the very best blooms for years to come. All proceeds benefit the High Desert Iris Society.

Wa She Shu It Dey Native American Festival at Valhalla:

The Wa She Shu It' Deh Native American Arts Festival features traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, basket weaving displays, art, and great food. The basket weaving competition features over fourteen different categories. The Washoe are highly regarded for their master craftsmanship of baskets and have had several well-known weavers throughout their history, including Dat So La Lee. The Washoe are the original inhabitants of Da ow aga (Lake Tahoe) and all the lands surrounding it. Washoe ancestral territory consists of a nuclear area with Lake Tahoe at its heart, and a peripheral area that was frequently shared with neighboring tribes. The Washoe re-unite on the last weekend of July at the Tallac Historic Site to honor their culture and heritage during this annual festival. Sponsored by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, this event is free to attend, and open to the public
