Taxable sales in Nevada shot up 10.4% in May over the same month a year ago, with sales of vehicles and durable goods posting double-digit gains.
May marks the 23rd consecutive month of increased sales in a state hard hit by the Great Recession.
The report released Friday by the state Department of Taxation shows merchants sold $3.7 billion in goods during the month on which the state collected nearly $289 million in gross sales and use taxes. Revenue collections were up nearly 9% over May 2011 and 6.5% for 11 months of the fiscal year.
Around the state, sales in Clark County rose 10% in May, while Washoe County saw an increase of nearly 5%.
Fifteen of Nevada's 17 counties reported increased sales. (AP)
