RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Trial for a former Nevada developer and lobbyist accused of violating federal campaign contribution laws has been postponed.
Harvey Whittemore, who has strong ties to Nevada's political elite including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, was scheduled for trial Aug. 7 in Reno federal court.
Whittemore was indicted by a federal grand jury in June on two counts of making illegal campaign contributions, one count of lying to the FBI and one count of causing a false report to be sent to the Federal Election Commission.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks issued an order Wednesday granting requests by Whittemore's lawyers and prosecutors to delay the trial at least to the end of the year.
A new trial date has not yet been set.
