Our area blood bank is replenishing its stock of life-saving blood -- thanks to you, our viewers.
We held our 5th Annual 'Give 2 Live' Blood Drive inside the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on Wednesday. We collected more than 170 units of blood!
One donor even brought his wife and children! "The anatomy part of it, they're fascinated by how the body works and how it makes more blood. Grandpa had cancer, too… so they're learning a lot," says James Mack.
Quite a few people today donated because their families have had a direct impact from someone's donation.
Families like Sarah Steenberg.
Her brother was a mechanic for a semi truck company - and a work-related accident killed him five years ago. Doctors used 17 units of blood to try to save him.
So now, her family is trying to pay it forward. "We're doing a blood drive this Sat, the 28th, from 9am-1pm at Ellens Park of Zolezzi Lane in honor of his name, to try and give back to the blood community to give back all the blood they used to try to save him," says Sarah Steenberg.
So, if you missed Wednesday's blood drive, you will have another opportunity to donate this weekend.
But again - a successful day out here.
Thank you all and we'll see you next year.
