1,000 Acre Brush Fire Now 5% Contained Near Minden

Firefighters continue to work on a brush fire in the Douglas County area.

The 1,000 acre Springs Fire started around 2:30pm Sunday in the Pinenut Range east of Johnson Lane in the Minden area.

Sierra Front says the fire is burning in steep rocky terrain - and there are not many roads, so the flames are difficult for firefighters to get to.

It's currently 5% contained.

People from several parts of the northern Nevada area have been calling our newsroom to report a strong smell of smoke.

Sierra Front says all the smoke is coming from the Springs Fire.
