Nevadans React to Colorado Shooting

Posted: Updated:

People across the entire nation are shaken up over the shooting in Colorado that left 12 people dead, and it's no different right here in northern Nevada.

"We all sat there cuddled up just teary-eyed watching for all the loss and waste of lives," says Elisa Tauber.

"Why do we as Americans do this so much," says John Adlish. "It just seems like everyday you wake up there's going to be some sort of person who goes crazy."

"It has happened so frequently in the last several years," says Jackie Rhodes.

"Well I was thinking if I was there he would have gotten shot back at," says Paul Yohey.

"People are getting shot next to you, it's going to make you think twice about how you live your own life," says Dylan Eichenberg. "Even people watching, make them think twice."

Because of the tragedy, the Department of Homeland Security is actually assisting theaters across the country just in case a copycat emerges. On Friday our local law enforcement agencies came together and decided to increase patrols at public events going on this weekend.

"Hopefully giving some of our residents peace of mind," says Dep. Armando Avina with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. "But just understand that there's always that unknown risk, there's always that unknown threat, and we want people to remain vigilant."

Because they obviously can't be everywhere at once, authorities are reminding folks that if you do see something suspicious to report it so law enforcement can respond accordingly.
