The Price of Political Posturing

Posted: Updated:

As Northern Nevada prepares for visits from Barack Obama and Mitt Romney next week, some politicos are already amazed at the amount of attention Nevada is getting in terms of money spent here on those campaigns.

Greg Ferraro with the Ferarro Group has worked on a number of high-profile and national campaigns including runs by U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt, Governor Kenny Guinn, Governor Brian Sandoval and U.S. Senator Robert Dole.

Just looking around his office gives you a good idea of his Republican Connections. He knows what it costs to be successful. "The presidential campaigns have already spent $13.5 million in Nevada. $2 million was spent here in Washoe County. $2 million and we only have 219,000 voters. Not only that $2 million and it's only mid-July! We have 109 days to go and we'll surely shatter spending records for 2008. In fact, I expect to exceed that in the next 60 days."

He says that is a lot of money but that there is a lot at stake. The nation is polarized and every undecided vote counts. So he expects to see even more spending after the conventions and he expects both candidates will set records for personal visits to the Silver State before the election in November.
