Hand rolls. Long rolls. And lots and lots of unique rolls. That's what you can expect at Tha Joint Sushi and Grill. But what's even more impressive about this sushi place? It came into the spot on Los Altos Parkway, just one month after another sushi place went out of business. "When I read the review on the previous sushi place it kinda tells us why they were not successful." So Chon Song and his partner, executive chef, Tae Lee, used their own business plan which not only is making them successful here, but setting them apart from every other sushi restaurant in town. "What makes us different is once the product gets here my chef does a wonderful job taking care of the product before it's served to our customers and that makes a big difference," says Song.
The decor is not your typical Japanese restaurant. Tha Joint is an idea Chon's been playing around with for the last 5 years. He wanted to call a restaurant Tha Joint, complete with pictures of Alcatraz, and it just happens to be a sushi place. "We try to create an atmosphere that when everyone walks in here they have fun and have a great time enjoying their meal."
And your meal will be like no other. Chef Tae Lee offers unique options like the sassy tuna. The spicy tuna and fried green onions with crab comes topped with deep fried tempura for a nice crunch. The latingo is salmon, crab, lemon and hamachi. Lee says he finds his new options by nibbling at work. "All the sushi chefs they just make something for themselves and then I just walk by and try it and oh my gosh so good."
They also offer a sushi roll made with cooked chicken. That's called tha funky chicken and is on a list of 19 rolls all of which are cooked. And for those that just won't eat any type of sushi they also have a several items from the grill menu.
Tha Joint is located at 222 Los Altos Parkway, on the corner of Los Altos and Pyramid Highway. For more information, call 775-626-8677.
