170 Homes Under Threat From Placer Co. Blaze

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters are struggling to contain a blaze that has consumed one home and forced evacuations from dozens of others in Placer County.

State fire officials on Monday said the 2,500 acre Robbers Fire was growing on its northern and eastern edges. It was 30% contained.

Smoke from this fire can be seen throughout the Truckee Meadows.

Residents have been evacuated to a Red Cross shelter in Foresthill, and 170 homes remained under threat. Evacuations remain in effect for homes off Yankee Jims Canyon & Shirttail Canyon area, as well as parts of Iowa Hill.

In addition to the home, four outbuildings have also been destroyed by the fire.

Twelve firefighters have been injured battling the fire, and more than 2,100 personnel are currently on scene.

An animal shelter is located at the Pleasant Street entrance of the Gold Country Fairgrounds.

The cause remains under investigation. There's still no estimate on full containment.

Another blaze to the northwest, the Mill Fire, was 67% contained after charring about 46 square miles of the Mendocino National Forest - and about 10 miles west of Stonyford, California.

Several homes remain threatened.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation. Full containment is expected sometime this Friday. (AP)
