Beating the Heat With Fountains and Water Parks

Posted: Updated:

Cold water has never looked so good.

Especially when temperatures hit the triple digits.

"It's hot and you have to put sunscreen on, and stay cool in the water," says Katie Foley.

By Wednesday afternoon, dozens of kids, including some of their parents, were dancing and playing in the fountains at Lazy 5 Regional Park's water park in Spanish Springs.

"She's two and a half, and pools are a little scary and Wild Waters is a little scary for little guys," says Sydney Benger. "This is perfect."

Families tell us grabbing a shady spot under a tree and letting the kids loose is the perfect way to keep them happy. When it gets this hot, that's not always the easiest thing to accomplish.

"With kids, it's really hard because they are cranky when it's hot," says Andrea Bertrand. "They're 10 times more cranky than an adult."

Thankfully, there was plenty of water to go around for everybody. So, we didn't run into too many cranky people. Plenty of kids had the right idea in Victorian Square, sprinting in and out of water fountains all day.

"Oh, he's loving it. He's loving every minute of it," says Xavier Lopez about his grandson. "I don't think we're going to be able to pry him out of here."

For folks not willing to throw the swimming trunks on, they picked a nice comfortable spot to relax in the Sparks Marina.

"We decided to come down where we thought we could catch some breeze, and let the kids run," says Dorie Knight. "We have several kids with us, teens and little ones."

Knight keeps her home cool with a swamp cooler. She says it does the job, but the house still gets pretty warm during this heat wave.

"It looks like it's going to continue to be like this, we may have to get out a little more. Get out and catch the breeze."

We talked to a bunch of moms Wednesday at Lazy 5 and Victorian Square. They all tell us the most important things to remember if you plan on heading outdoors with the family, bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen and of course, Popsicles.
