AlertID Expands to Cover Millions Nationwide

Posted: Updated:

Locally-owned company AlertID Incorporated is celebrating a nationwide expansion this week, becoming available to nearly half of the population of the United States.

AlertID is a free online service that uses federal databases to notify users when there is criminal activity or sex offenders in their neighborhoods. The company started in Northern Nevada back in 2009, and has now expanded to cover ten states and 144 million people, including all Northern Nevada neighborhoods.

"Our goal is to inform everyone," AlertID founder Keli Wilson said, "give them a little bit more power and control over their public safety, and help to keep our community safer."

Along with the service through AlertID's website, users can download a smartphone app that has the same notifications and features, as well as a place to upload information on your child in case of an emergency, and a section that will allow you to communicate with your neighbors about suspicious activity.

Wilson said that the idea is to increase awareness and communication between neighbors and to law enforcement, to help fight crime from the ground up.

"If a sex offender moves into your neighborhood, you're going to be more watchful," Wilson said. "You're going to take precautions; you're going to talk to your neighbors and make sure that everyone knows what's going on."
