U.S. 395 near Stead has re-opened after authorities investigated an overnight shooting that left a woman dead.

The incident happened between the Stead and Lemmon Valley exits on U.S. 395 north.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say they were responding to a two-car accident and subsequent shooting just after 2:30am. Witnesses told authorities the suspect also shot at them when they stopped at the accident scene.

Police say the suspect later returned to the scene and was taken into custody while CPR was being performed on the woman. The unidentified 33-year-old Reno woman died at the scene.

After Reno police detectives arrived on scene, they interviewed the suspect, 29-year-old Jeffrey Rodriguez. He was taken to the Reno Police Department for questioning and will be booked into the Washoe County Jail where he will be held without bail.

Highway 395 north reopened just after 10am with the southbound lanes opening back up about a half-hour later.

Rodriguez is expected to be charged with open murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Police say Rodriguez and the victim knew each other.
