As the Regional Transportation Commission's (RTC) road-widening and reconstruction project progresses in the Moana Lane region of downtown Reno, a shift of traffic and reduction in travel lanes will occur on Kietzke Lane beginning Monday, July 9. There will be one northbound and one southbound travel lane on the east side of Kietzke Lane from Gentry Way to approximately 500 feet south of Moana Lane. Work to prepare for the traffic switch will occur on Friday night, July 6 beginning at 7:00 pm. The purpose of the shift in traffic pattern is to accommodate the reconstruction of the intersection at Moana and Kietzke Lanes.
Currently, traffic pattern changes are in effect on Moana Lane from Baker Lane to U.S. 395 (I-580) with travel lanes moved to the north side of the street. In addition, traffic at the intersection of Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane has been reduced to one lane each way. The signalized intersections remain operational. Motorists are advised to be alert to new travel lane configurations on Moana Lane, Kietzke Lane and South Virginia Street.
The purpose of the Moana Lane project is to reduce existing congestion, improve safety and provide future capacity for the thoroughfare, which is considered an important resort corridor. The project includes widening of Moana Lane from four to six lanes from Baker Lane to the U.S. 395 (I-580) ramps. The project is anticipated to help create 215 direct and indirect construction jobs in the region. RTC & Q&D Construction encourage the public to continue supporting the businesses in the corridor during construction work for their economic well-being and the region's.
