If ants are bugging you this summer you are not alone.
"Spiders, ants, lots and lots of ants. But we're seeing mice and wasps too," said Glen Farnsworth an exterminator with Nash Pest Control in Reno. And he'd know, he's been spraying as many as ten houses in a day this summer.
"This year we had kind of a mild winder so it didn't kill off all the bugs so we're seeing increased activity with ants and spiders and what have you," Farnsworth said.
So if you've seen swarms and haven't been able to control them with over the counter bug spray, it may be time to pay a professional. They have a rule of thumb to find the source and then build a barrier around your house two feet up and two feet out. Then they reinforce that with a perimeter spray inside.
"You can use Raid and that lasts for like a week. The chemicals we use are stronger and last for three to four months," he said.
The average price for spraying we found calling around town today was $100 for the initial spray. Some were as high as $125 some as low as $85. And while that may sound steep, you have to weigh it against swarms of insects. And if you do it might just be worth it to keep them out.
