I know it's the middle of the week but there are so many Things 2 Do to celebrate the Fourth of July in Northern Nevada we thought we'd compile a mid-week list for you.
Virginia City is the place to be for a Hometown Fourth. They are known for their parades and on the Fourth of July they go all out. The parade through town is at high noon on the fourth. They'll have historic train rides and stage coaches - there will also be a concert by the Comstock Cowboys in the parking lot of the Delta Saloon and of course, fireworks at dusk.
In Reno - the big event is a patriotic concert by the 1st Marine Division Band at Wingfield Park. The 45-piece band will be in Reno as part of Artown. The free concert starts at 7:30pm.
Sparks will be celebrating all day long. In fact, their party at the Sparks Marina starts at 6am with tethered hot air balloon rides. The carnival continues around the marina with food and music, face painting and other and giant slides until 3pm. Then the fun moves, by shuttle this year, to downtown Sparks where food and live music will last from 5:30pm until the fireworks are set off from atop John Ascuaga's Nugget. This is the 17th year John Ascuaga has sponsored the fireworks which can be seen all over the valley.
In Carson City, the fun starts at 11am and goes until 11pm in Mills Park. They plan to have vendors and music and a family carnival with fireworks set for dusk.
In Gardnerville, the parade through the Ranchos is set for 11:30am.
In Fernley, the parade starts at 10 am followed by a party in the park that rivals anything you might remember from your past including a horseshoe game and a greased pig contest, pie eating and more.
And in Genoa there will be a chicken BBQ at the volunteer fire department at 1pm and a concert at Mormon Station starting at 4:15pm.
Enjoy!
