Sam's Club and American Legion Post # 1 Reno Host

Honor Flight Nevada Fund Raiser

June 21, 2012 – Sam's Club and American Legion # 1 partner to host a fundraiser for Honor Flight Nevada (HFNV) at its Reno Kietzke Lane store. The event will be held on June 30, 2012 between 10:30 am--] 6:00 pm, in tribute to 4th of July.

Sam's Club and American Legion Post # 1 are sponsoring this event to make possible all its WWII and Korean era Veterans have a chance to make the trip with Honor Flight. The event will consist of Veterans and volunteers selling Military Hot Sauce and Honor Flight t--]shirts as well as collecting donations.

The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. Veterans are not allowed to pay for any of the trip; it is by donations and gifts from grateful citizens and companies. Top priority is given to America's most senior and frail veterans – survivors of World War II or any vet with a terminal illness who wishes to visit his or her memorial.

"We made the commitment to do this as long as there was a local WWII and other veteran able and ready to go. We have received over 100 applications in the last month alone." Jon Yuspa, Founder and Chairman of Honor Flight Nevada.

The WWII memorial pays homage to the 16 million Americans who served during the campaign. The monument was not completed until 2004, and most of the war's veterans never had the opportunity to visit the site. Of the 38,000 men and women from Nevada who served during the campaign, it is estimated that only a couple thousand are still alive.

"It is a privilege to honor the courageous actions of these humble servicemen and women," said Yuspa.

The cost of each HFNV trip will be approximately $110,000, all funded by corporate and private sector donations. Currently, more than 100 Honor Flight Hubs across the country are actively working to provide their local veterans with a similar opportunity.
