Reno led Sunday's game for the first seven innings, but a pair of Salt Lake home runs in the eighth lifted the Bees to a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Aces at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
The Aces scored a run in the first and second innings, taking a lead that would stand for most of the afternoon. Up by a 3-1 count in the eighth, though, Joe Paterson surrendered a game-tying two-run shot to Kole Calhoun before Jensen Lewis allowed the go-ahead runs to score on a two-run homer for Cory Aldridge.
Paterson (1-1) took the loss for Reno, while Salt Lake reliever Matt Meyer (1-0) earned the win. Kevin Jepsen worked a spotless ninth to pick-up his second save.
Neither starter on Sunday figured into the decision. Reno's Trevor Bauer worked 2.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits with five strikeouts. Salt Lake's Matt Shoemaker scattered three runs on six hits with six strikeouts over five frames.
In the loss, Jake Elmore doubled home a run in the first inning to push his hitting streak to 31-straight games. Ryan Wheeler drove in his Minor League-leading 71st and 72nd runs of the season.
The Aces and Bees continue the series on Monday night. RHP Joe Martinez (7-3, 4.62 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while RHP Eddie McKiernan (3-2, 7.77 ERA) takes the ball for Salt Lake. First pitch from Spring Mobile Ballpark is set for 6:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 630 AM in Reno or by visiting RenoAces.com.
The Aces will return home on Wednesday, June 27 to kick-off a seven-game homestand against the Fresno Grizzlies and Las Vegas 51s. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
