Washoe County GOP Selects New District Assembly 27 Candidate

Posted: Updated:

On Friday, the Washoe County Republican Party has picked a new candidate to face the Democratic incumbent in Assembly District 27.

Tom Taber, the President of the Republican Men's Club of Northern Nevada was chosen to face Assemblywoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson on the November ballot.

"We're going to be pushing very hard to find funds and basically, we've sort of put together a plan already," he said. "So, we have an idea of where we're going, what we want to do."

Yvonne Larkin was originally supposed to face Benitez-Thompson, but recently announced she's moved out of the state to take care of personal issues.

"This was something that I have not seen happen, and I've been here 34 years where a candidate could not make it through and actually had to leave the state for personal reasons," said Washoe County Republican Party Chairman Dave Buell. "We found there was an opportunity to fill that void."

Taber's name must be submitted to election officials by 5 p.m. Friday to appear on the November ballot.
