A blazing fast run on a horse named Firebug caused a lead change in the Women's Professional Rodeo Association barrel race at the Reno Rodeo on Wednesday night.
Jeanne Anderson from White City, Kan., had a solid run in the first round during slack on Wednesday, stopping the clock in 17.59 seconds. She made her second run during the performance and took the lead in the overall standings as well as the second round with a 16.95 second run, the fastest of the rodeo so far.
Anderson is now ahead of Nancy Hunter who also had a sub 17-second run in the second round previously. Hunter is second with 34.75 seconds on two runs compared to Anderson's 34.54.
South Dakota world champions dominated Wednesday night's saddle bronc riding. Traveling partners Chad Ferley from Oelrichs and Jeff Willert from Belvidere each had 82 point rides on Flying U Rodeo horses. Ferley got on Hail Mary and Willert rode Kattle Call. Ferley is one spot ahead in the overall standings with 166 points on two rides. Willert has 163.
Baylor Roche from Tremonton, Utah, is just coming off of the injured reserve list in steer wrestling. He broke his foot in Tucson, Ariz., last February and had to have surgery. Competing at Wednesday's Reno Rodeo was his return to competition.
Roche is leading the first round of competition with a 3.8-second run. His second round time of 6.0 seconds is not placing in the round, but put him in second place overall with a total of 9.8. Travis Carnine from Stanfield, Ore., leads with 9.5 seconds.
