The Washoe County Health District has confirmed whooping cough in three Truckee Meadows residents.
These are the first confirmed cases of whooping cough - or pertussis - in Washoe County since August of 2011.
All three people lived in the same household, but health officials say as many as 70 people may have come in direct contact with them.
Health officials want to remind adolescents and adults to get their pertussis booster vaccine especially if they have close contact with infants 12 months and younger.
Pertussis is spread by coughing or sneezing.
Symptoms start out similar to a cold, but over time get worse.
To learn more - or make an appointment for a booster vaccine, call the Washoe County Health District at 328-2402.
